I was planning to work on something with a less feminine feel but... I decided to work on spring cards and the spring papers in my craft room tend to feature florals. I was a bit tired of pinks so pulled out the Mint to Be paper pad from Craft Smart. I've used the paper pad in the past and really like the pastel greens and yellows.
To get started I used some of the scraps from previous cards. The first card pairs a large scale floral print for the focal panel with a splatter print for the background. Instead of using cardstock for the horizontal banner I used a small scrap of a green and white polka dot print. For a sentiment I used "Happy Birthday" since the splatter print reminded me of confetti. The sentiment is stamped in Versafine Vintage Sepia ink on a die cut white circle. To finish the card I added a few yellow Queen and Co. bubbles.
The second card features a gray, green and yellow ikat print for the background and a fun daisy print for the focal panel. I think the scale of the daisy print works well with the busyness of the ikat. For embellishment I added a yellow ribbon around the top of the daisy panel. Everything is then matted on gray cardstock. The "just for You" sentiment is stamped on a circle die cut and popped up on the lower right corner of the focal panel.
The next card combines 3 pattern papers. The focal panel features a floral print paired with a tone on tone stripe. For a bit of separation between the 2 prints I added a yellow satin ribbon. The focal panel is centered on a green and white polka dot background. Everything is matted on yellow cardstock. I went with a simple "hello!" sentiment stamped in Versafine Onyx Black ink. To finish the card I added a few clear Queen and Co. bubbles in the upper left corner and around the sentiment.
I think this card may be my favorite. I used a white brick print for the background and another floral print for the focal panel. Instead of matting the floral panel I added silver Love from Lizi peel-offs along the edges. A small strip of a green and white polka dot print peeks out from behind the floral panel. For the strip across the card I added a yellow gingham print. The sentiment is stamped in gray ink on a circle die cut and popped up for some dimension.
The last card is a very simple layout. It features the large scale floral print for the background and tone on tone stripe print for the strip across the card. The background and sentiment are matted in a coordinating green cardstock. More Love from Lizi peel-offs are used along the edges of the stripe print. A friend theme sentiment is stamped with Versafine Vintage Sepia ink and popped up on the left side of the card. For embellishment I added a few yellow brads in the upper right corner.
As usual with a 12x12 paper pad I made multiples of each card. I'm not sure what I'll work on next but it won't be floral themed. I've got a couple Echo Park/Carta Bella 6x6 paper pads that need to be finished up so I'm leaning towards one of those.
I'm still working with the Petticoats & Pinstripes collection. After the first batch of pink cards, I moved on to the green and yellow papers. And I focused on using more of the floral print.
The first set of cards used the green hexagon print for the background. I used a yellow cardstock that matches the florals for the 2 vertical strips. For the thin horizontal panel across the card I used a pale pink cardstock. The floral focal panel was a rectangular cutapart that I trimmed into a circle using a Spellbinders die set. To finish the card I stamped the sentiment using Momento Bamboo Leaves ink and popped it up using foam tape.
The second set of cards uses a bright yellow Moroccan style print for the background. I used a scrap of the green hexagon print for the vertical panel on the left side of the card. For the focal panel I used another Spellbinders die set to create the oval floral panel. I was still using the Friends Forever Quotes stamp set and thought the swirling "You and Me" sentiment matched well.
I was flipping through the partial sheets of paper and couldn't resist making one more pink card. The layout is a combination of the previous 2 cards. For the background I used more of the pastel pink and white floral print. The vertical panel is a scrap of the pink polka dot print. The teapot cutapart made a perfect focal panel. I use a set of Spellbinders circle dies to cut it down to the right size. To add some interest to the sentiment, I trimmed the right edge at an angle and popped it up with more foam tape.
As all of the cards included multiple layers, including some fairly heavy cardstock, I skipped adding any additional embellishments. I want to ensure the cards can be mailed without requiring any additional postsage. There's still paper left in the collection kit but I think I'll move on. Maybe something with a less feminine feel.
With spring just around the corner I decided to make some spring colored cards. After flipping through my Echo Park collection kits I pulled out Petticoats and Pinstripes. The kit includes bright greens and yellows along with several shades of pink. The prints include dress forms, teapots and florals.
Since the kit had a very feminine feel I decided to make "friend" cards. I pulled out Fiskars Friends Forever Quotes stamp set. I can't remember when or where I got the stamps but the set includes several great sentiments. For the first set of cards I focused on the pink papers.
My favorite print was the dress forms so I started with that. I selected a sketch that included a large focal panel where the dress forms would be featured. I paired this with a pastel pink and white floral background print. To keep the card from being too pale I added a strip of bright pink cardstock and used a Fiskars border punch to create the scalloped edge. For some sparkle I added a Love from Lizi peel-off along both edges. I used a Spellbinders die set to create the ovals for the sentiment which I stamped using a pink ink. To finish the card I added 3 Queen and Co. pink bubbles.
For my second card I used a bright pink and white print for the background and paired it with the teapot print. To bring in a color other than pink I added a strip of blue cardstock across the card and edged it with Love from Lizi peel-offs. For some more blue I stamped the sentiment in Momento Bahama Blue ink. To finish the card I added more of the pink bubbles from Queen and Co.
For the last card in my "pink set" I used a large floral print for the background. The 2 pink vertical panels are both scraps from the previous cards. The sentiment is stamped using another pink ink. I think it's the Distress Oxide Worn Lipstick color. Since there are 8 layers of paper/cardstock on parts of this card I decided against adding any more dimension.
I like the way the cards turned out and was able to make multiples using the 12x12 papers. For my next set I'm going to use the green and yellow prints.
After looking through my craft room, I couldn't find anything that really sparked my interest. Which is really sad considering how many Spellbinders kits, Echo Park/Carta Bella collection kits, and random 6x6 and 12x12 paper pads I have.
Instead I decided to thin out my "collection" of scrap paper. I have a 12x12 scrapbook bin that I throw all the larger scraps in so it's easy to pull out and put away when I'm done.
This has got to be the easiest card to make. Just find 3 pieces of paper at least 1 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches in size. The exact size can be modified depending on whether or not you want to include matting for the individual pieces or the entire background. Just trim them up and put them on a card.
I went the easy route and only matted the background piece. For some dimension I popped up the sentiment with foam tape and added a few epoxy dots. Since I had to trim down the scraps, I was able to make several cards using these 3 papers.
I've used this sketch in the past and really like it. It only requires 2 coordinating papers and uses up some of the larger scrap pieces. For this card I paired a white and orange grid print with a blue and orange polka dot print. To bring in a bit more blue, I stamped the sentiment in a light blue ink. For embellishment I added a few orange brads following the angle of the polka dot panel.
While flipping through the scraps I found a few more larger pieces that coordinated nicely. Since I had already figured out the measurements for the angled panel on the last card I figured I'd make a few more.
This card pairs a blue and green branch print with a blue and green polka dot print. I used the same light blue ink for the sentiment. For embellishment I added a few brads, this time placing them on the angled panel.
I ended up making several cards using these 2 layouts. I thinned out the scrap bin a bit and managed to use quite a few brads and epoxy dots that have been hanging out in my craft room. After flipping through all the scraps I'm ready to move on to an actual collection or at least a single paper pad.
